On 17-18 November 2022 an international conference was held. It was the central event of a series of meetings, workshops and lectures entitled ‘Solidarity Arbitration and Mediation Days‘.

The programme of SAMD included a series of events on the issue of amicable dispute resolution, attended by more than 200 people not only from Poland and Ukraine, but also from Austria, Lithuania, Germany, Romania, the United States, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom, among others.

The aim of the event was to demonstrate the support of the international arbitration, mediation and legal community for Ukrainian lawyers and all those affected by the war in Ukraine.

A lasting achievement of the event is the Scholarship Fund, created with funds donated by participants and conference partners. The scholarships will provide financial assistance to Ukrainian young lawyers and students.

The Fund’s Rules were signed during the conference by representatives of SAMD’s supporting institutions.

Topics included issues of dispute resolution in the IT and high-tech sectors, good practice in the use of mediation in litigation and arbitration, as well as a comparison of recent procedural developments and their impact on the efficiency of dispute resolution practice. Speakers also discussed developments in international investment law, including the principles of state liability, as well as methods of resolving disputes involving states.

The conference was attended by, among others Professor Mykola Selivon, President of the ICAC Arbitration Court in Kiev, Professor Stefan Kröll, Chairman of the Council of the German Arbitration Institute (DIS), Professor Dr Felix Dasser, President of the Swiss Arbitration Association (ASA), Natalia Petrik, Deputy Secretary General of the Arbitration Court of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce, @Asko Pohla, Chairman of the Council of the Arbitration Court of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce, Małgorzata Surdek-Janicka, Vice President of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC Arbitration) in Paris and Monika Włodarczyk, Vice President of GEMME EUROPE.

The event was co-organised by the Court of Arbitration at the PCC, the University of Warsaw, the ICAC Arbitration Court in Kiev and the European Association of Judges for Mediation GEMME EUROPE, in cooperation with European arbitration institutions, in partnership with reputable Polish and foreign law firms.
