Conference “Arbitration Proceedings”

postepowanie_arbitrazoweThe Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw and the Chair of Commercial and Business Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Łódź are pleased to invite all interested persons to take part in a conference entitled “Arbitration Proceedings”. This year’s host of the meeting, which will take place on 6 November 2014, will be the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Łódź.

The speakers invited to present papers come from both academic and professional legal circles, which will make possible an in-depth and comprehensive analysis of the most important issues concerning proceedings before a court of arbitration.

The following issues, among others, will be considered:

  • the scope of autonomy of parties in shaping the course of the process
  • admitting a third party/auxiliary intervening party to the proceedings
  • good practices in the admission of expert evidence
  • the auxiliary application of Civil Procedure Code provisions in arbitration proceedings
  • evidence and the manner of examining evidence

The conference will consist of three panels. The first topic, moderated by legal counsel Józef Palinka, will look at organising arbitration proceedings, the speakers being Prof. dr hab. Krystyna Szczepanowska-Kozłowska, Prof. dr hab. Andrzej Szumański, Prof. UWr. dr hab. Łukasz Błaszczak and Dr Marcin Dziurda.

The second panel will concentrate on issues concerning the hearing of evidence – of witnesses, experts and evidence from documents, the moderator of this part of the discussion being prof. UŁ dr hab. Aleksander Kappes, with papers presented by advocate Bartosz Krużewski, advocate Maciej Jamka, dr Rafał Morek and attorney Maciej Łaszczuk.

In the third part of the conference, the guests invited will consider relations between the court of arbitration and state courts. Presentations on this subject will be given by Prof. dr hab. Karol Weitz, legal counsel Paweł Lewandowski, legal counsel Monika Hartung and Prof. dr hab. Wojciech Popiołek. The panel will be moderated by Prof. dr hab. Józef Frąckowiak.

We invite the following in particular to attend the conference: arbitrators and lawyers, scholars, and representatives of the judicial and academic communities.

There is a fee for attending the conference. For representatives of the academic community and for law faculty students, the fee is PLN 150 plus VAT. For other participants, the fee is PLN 300 plus VAT.

After the conference, we invite all participants to Pałac Poznańskich (Poznańskich Palace) for a gala dinner and artistic performances by Artur Andrus.

For your convenience, we have reserved accommodation in Andel’s Hotel Łódź, DoubleTree by Hilton in Łódź, and in the Training and Conference Centre of the University of Łódź, at promotional rates.
