Conference “Arbitration award”

The Court of Arbitration at the Polish Chamber of Commerce in Warsaw, the Chair of Private Commercial Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Jagiellonian University and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Krakow are pleased to invite all interested persons to take part in a conference entitled “Arbitration Award”, which will address issues relating to awards of the Court of Arbitration, their content and form, as well as the extent to which they are binding and their impact on the situation of third parties. The conference is being organised with the support of the law firm CMS Cameron McKenna.

It will take place on 8 November 2013 in Krakow. We invite the following in particular to attend the conference: arbitrators and attorneys, scholars, and representatives of the judicial and academic communities.

Speakers at the conference will include academic experts with extensive experience in considering arbitration disputes. They will share their knowledge on the subject of the issuance of awards in arbitration proceedings, and will discuss the effects of such awards. Participation in the conference will provide a unique opportunity to become acquainted with specific issues related to this key arbitration issue, and to take part in a forum where experts and others involved in the field will exchange views.

The conference will consist of four panels. The first, moderated by Prof. Andrzej Szumański, will be on the binding nature of an award by an arbitration court, with panelists Supreme Court Judge Prof. Józef Frąckowiak, Prof. Wojciech Popiołek, and attorney Arkadiusz Korzeniewski.

The second panel will focus on issues of the content and form of arbitration court awards, and will be moderated by Prof. Maksymilian Pazdan, with presentations by attorney Maciej Łaszczuk, Dr Witold Jurcewicz and attorney Piotr Nowaczyk.

The third part of the conference will address the effectiveness of arbitration court awards towards third parties. Presentations will be given by attorney Małgorzata Surdek, Dr Grzegorz Suliński and Dr Cezary Wiśniewski, and the panel will be moderated by Prof. Stanisław Sołtysiński.

The fourth panel will address the public order clause as a basis for challenging an arbitration court award, and will be moderated by Prof. Tadeusz Ereciński, with presentations by Dr Rafał Morek, attorney Bartosz Krużewski and Prof. Karol Weitz.

There is a fee for attending the conference. For representatives of the academic community and for law faculty students, the fee is PLN 100 plus VAT. For other participants, the fee is PLN 200 plus VAT.

After the conference, we invite all participants to Piwnica pod Baranami for a gala dinner and artistic performances.
